Or does the 2014 S60 look pretty dulled down? Especially when you compare it to the last version.

The new one is less fussy, smoother, etc. But less distinctive. It's true.
It's also a case in point for why I hate cars with "trapped hoods". The plastic nose cap never looks well-aligned, makes the hood look shorter, and reflects light and the paint color differently than the metal around it.

The new car is very bleh, nothing going on with the body whatsoever. A true boner-killer. Volvos of yore always had that step-like shoulder that communicated stability and power. Now its as if the body lines have been absorbed by the new car's larger dimensions.
